Green and White Plaid

Today's design is another pinterest inspiration.  I have been finding a lot of nail ideas on pinterest, however I am starting to feel like I am relying too much on what others are doing instead of coming up with my own designs.  I really need to stop looking at nails on pinterest! :)

Tera over at Nails in Nippon did a really nice pink and black plaid for Valentine's Day and I decided to try it out.  I had been thinking about what design to use with OPI Thanks A Windmillion and after seeing Tera's design I thought that a green and white plaid would look nice, plus I wanted to practice my free hand skills.

First, I applied 2 coats of OPI Thanks A Windmillion.  This is an awesome creamy, gray-green!  It is one of my new favorite greens.

Second, I added the first layer of white using Sinful Colors Nail Art Bad Chick.

Third, I went back and added lines of Windmillion on top of Bad Chick using a striping brush.

Fourth, I added the last set of lines using Bad Chick.

Lastly, I topped it off with 2 coats of OTD.

I do wish that my lines had been thinner and straighter, but for my first attempt I don't think it turned out to bad.  I am thinking about try it with acrylic paint, maybe the lines would be more crisp.

  3. I really like this! The lines don't have to be crisp if it's supposed to look like a plaid. :)
