World Day of Bully Prevention - Blue Shirt Day

If you didn't know it, today is Stomp Out Bullying Day or World Day of Bully Prevention.  The idea is to wear a blue shirt to show your support for Bully Prevention.  Not only am I wearing a blue shirt, I am also rocking blue nails!
As a teacher I see bullying everyday.  Recently I have been completely surprised by the level some of these kids are taking in their bullying.  It seems, at least to me, that bullies are getting more aggressive and bordering very close to violent, if not already demonstrating violent tendencies.  I am working with a girl right now who is being harassed everyday on the bus.  It makes me so mad because she is working through some major issues in her life, an abusive father, and she deals with it in school too, a place where students are supposed to be safe.  A commentor on  my Facebook page made a statement about how bullying won't go away and we need to develop thicker skin to deal with these people.  I do agree with her, because all the bullying programs don't seem to work, but I do think that we need to work with the victims.  We need to help and support them and give them a place to go to when things get rough.  I am disgusted every time I see a news story about a student that has killed him/her self because of bullying!  If you see it happening, step up and do something!  Don't just stand by and let it happen!
Okay, I need to get off my soap box or else this post will turn into a big rant.
In support of all of my students and others I have created this design.

I started with 2 coats of China Glaze Electric Beat.

I added my blue ribbons using BM321 and Barry M Cobalt Blue.

I added some dots using Zoya Song and Barry M Turquoise.

I topped it off with 2 coats of HK Girl and butter LONDON Hardwear.

Don't ignore bullying if you see it!  Stand up to bullying and help those that are the victims!

  10. Fab nails and for a fantastic cause. I was really badly bullied when I was I was school and you're right, there's nothing that works to stop it. its very sad but I'm doubtful things will ever change x :-)

  11. I do believe that bullying will end in the future, but this is not a place to comment on my religious beliefs. I'm glad that your students have a teacher that cares. Bullies as kids turn into domestic abusers and harass their employees as adults. Kids do need to be prepared that it is going to happen, but so is racism. We still need to stand against it.
