The Digit-al Dozen Does: Countries & Cultures - Germany

Today's design is dedicated to my hubby. When deciding which countries to do this week I knew I wanted to do one manicure based on the country his ancestor immigrated from.  I also knew what design I was going to do, however I messed up on the execution.  In order to save time in clean up my manicure is not a hundred percent what I wanted.  But I'll let you be the judge!

Day Three - Germany

The first step is where things went wrong.  I told myself to start with a white base, but I didn't want to do the clean up with black.  Black can be a pain to clean off.  So instead I chose poorly and went with one coat of Milani Black Swift.

Using my new love, the make-up sponge, I added my gradient using Rapid Cherry and Canary.  Because I used the black I had to add many coats of the red and yellow, which actually created a lot of clean up. Head slap!

It is an interesting look but I won't do it again! I will definitely use a white base next time! At least you won't make the same mistake after reading this! Consider it your tip of the day!

  1. Brilliant - even if it was a pain to get there.

  3. I love that you did a gradient with these colors! I would never have thought to do that. I agree, the black is a pain in the butt to clean off! I've started using acrylic paints for gradients because the clean up is so easy! I bet your hubby is pleased with the world cup outcome! :D

  4. I'm amazed you got this to work over black! I was thinking maybe you'd done the gradient the other way round! Great job!
