OPI 50 Shades of Grey Collection

Press Sample

Friday night was the premiere of 50 Shades of Grey.  Maybe you have heard of the books and movie....unless you have been living under a rock! I read the series and wasn't a fan.  I thought it was bad writing with an unimpressive story.  Yes, there is sex, but I have read much better smut books.  I was happy to hear the OPI was releasing a collection based on the series.  As a lover of grey, I knew there would be some great ones in the collection.  I wasn't disappointed!

I used the collection to create this manicure.

My Silk Tie - a soft silver polish.  I'm not typically a fan of silver but I think this soft, muted silver is stunning.  I applied two coats, but you will want to be careful with your brushstrokes.

Romantically Involved - classic, dark red.  OPI is known for their reds and this one is perfect.  I applied two flawless coats.

Dark Side of the Mood - dark charcoal with a subtle blue tone.  I found this polish to be very confusing.  OPI lists this as a creme but mine has some glitter in it. I'm not sure why it is not included in the official description.  I love the little extra sparkle.  I should have taken a bottle shot so you could see it because you really can't see it in the photo.  I applied two coats.

Cement the Deal - perfect light grey.  This one will be a fantastic base for nail art.  Flawless application in two coats.

Embrace the Gray - slightly darker grey.  I found this polish to be a tad thin but I evened out in two coats.  Gorgeous grey!

Shine For Me - fine silver and blue glitter.  I applied two coats but this is more of a topper.

Here are the steps of my design.

I finally tried watermarbling again.  I used all the colors to create the marble.  I am really happy with how it turned out but I should practice more.  I need to get better at creating the marbling.  It got a bit crazy on my ring finer.

I used Shine For Me to create this glitter gradient.  The fine glitter is perfect for this technique.  I applied one swatch on a makeup sponge.  Isn't the coverage amazing!

I didn't like the books but I LOVE the polish!

  3. Love how the marble turned out! I haven't read the books or seen the movie and will probably not do it either.
