The Digit-al Dozen Does: Food - Dumbledore's Sherbet Lemons

This month The Digit-al Dozen is creating nail art inspired by food.  This is a pretty easy theme.  I have a lot of food images, so completing the designs didn't seem like it would be that difficult.  Then I lost all motivation to do my nails.  So much so that I spent a week trying to decide if I should even be involved this month.  Then last Thursday I was struck by inspiration!  If you read the title then you probably figured it out!

In honor of Harry Potter's birthday, just over a week ago, I spent two days having a Harry Potter Marathon. I do love a HP Marathon and I tend to do them a couple times a year.  Every time I visit the world of HP I get inspired to surround myself with all the HP things.  Like spending a lot of time on Amazon spending money.  I found a watch that I can't wait to get!!  As I was sitting last week trying to breath some life and motivation into doing the DD theme I got a spark!  Why not do a foods of Harry Potter theme?!?!? After a lot of searching and thinking I narrowed it down to five foods.  If you didn't know this, food is actually an important theme in the books.  There are many things written about this topic.  If your interested I suggest taking a look.

I am presenting each food as it appears in the books, except for the last one.  You'll find out about that later.  My first design is Dumbledore's Sherbet Lemons.

""It certainly seems so," said Dumbledore. "We have much to be thankful for. Would you care for a sherbet lemon?"
"A what?"
"A sherbet lemon. They're a kind of Muggle sweet I'm rather fond of"
"No, thank you," said Professor McGonagall coldly, as though she didn't think this was the moment for sherbet lemons." (Philosopher's Stone)

Sherbet lemon appears twice in the the books, in the beginning and later as a password to Dumbledore's office.  I do think it is important to note that sherbet lemons are actually called lemon drops in the US version of the books.

I started my design with two coats of Sugar Cube.

I added my candy image using Fright Night and Born Pretty Plate BPL023.  I received this plate for review and so far I am really liking it.

I filled in my sherbet lemons using Primarily Yellow.  I thought that it was looking kind of plain so I went back and added some dots.

For the first part of my HP accent I used Good As Gold and Jr31 to add the Deathly Hallows.  Over that I used hehe026 and Fright Night to add the Gryffindor shield.  Little annoyed over the wonky placement, but oh well.

I love how bright and fun this design turned out.  I am pretty sure that I would love sherbet lemons.....if anyone wants to send me some!

Stop by and see what the other ladies created!

  1. Wowzers! I'm glad you got some inspiration and were able to do your nails this week!

  2. I love how you did this! I re-read the whole series probably once a year - it's fun to revisit old friends. :)

  3. This is such a cool idea to narrow down the theme for yourself! It's been way too long since I've read the books...

  4. These are cute! And the candies look so yummy!
